New Medjool packaging for stronger shelf appeal

Our organic Medjool dates are getting a fresh new look. The familiar 150g boxes are being phased out and replaced by new 200g and 400g packs. With a cleaner, more contemporary design, the boxes are better aligned with key target groups: Millennials and Gen Z.

From Morocco to Bard Valley: the journey of the Medjool date

The Medjool date has a remarkable story. Morocco is the historic birthplace of this beloved date. In 1919, production suffered a severe blow due to the outbreak of Bayoud disease. As a result, production fell dramatically and the Medjool date was on the verge of disappearing.

Kiwi

Overseas kiwi season gets underway

Golden kiwis are already available, with green kiwis to follow shortly. The golden kiwi season has started with Soreli from South Africa, followed by Zespri SunGold from New Zealand. In about three weeks’ time, we also expect the first green kiwis from Chile. Later in the season, volumes from Argentina will follow. The outlook for the new season is positive: quality and availability look good.

PPWR: packaging data ready by 12 August

From 12 August 2026, the new European PPWR requirements for packaging on the EU market will apply. Eosta is on track with preparations for the requirements that apply to us as an importer and supplier. This includes: recording packaging material data, having technical documentation available, collecting EU declarations of conformity for each packaging type, complying with requirements regarding substances of concern such as PFAS in food contact packaging and heavy metals, and registration in the relevant EPR schemes.

Ahead of the West African mango season, Procurement Manager Joep van Koevorden visited our partners Fruiteq and Buur Sine in Ivory Coast and Senegal. The outlook is positive: both countries are expecting a good harvest in both volume and quality.

Citrus Peel

Citrus: why untreated peel is becoming more relevant

Within the citrus category, post-harvest treatment of the peel with fungicides such as imazalil and thiabendazole is common practice to extend shelf life. In organic production, these substances are not permitted. Studies show that residues of one or more of these substances are frequently found on citrus peel in retail [1]. In addition, research points to potential health effects, including a possible genotoxic impact [2] [3].

The Organic Fruit Heroes concept is growing as a fresh alternative in the children’s snack segment. The concept responds to a clear market need: only 42.5% of European children eat fresh fruit every day, whilst parents are increasingly looking for healthy, pesticide-free choices.
