Our partnership with Basak Tarim, the family business of grower Baris Kocagoz in the Turkish region of Söke, began in the early 2000s. On their 20 hectares of organic land, they grow beautiful Hicaz pomegranates – rich in colour, flavour and antioxidants.

From week 49 onwards, Eosta starts the season for overseas organic stone fruit. In addition to our familiar organic plums, this year we are expanding the range with organic peaches, apricots and nectarcots – all supplied by our grower Pro-Plum Organics in South Africa.

In the Krimpenerwaard region, The Cranberry Company grows organic cranberries on 18 hectares of peat soil – an innovative example of “farming with nature”, showing respect for soil, water and biodiversity.

For the past three years, Eosta has been involved in cultivation trials in Bosnia and Herzegovina to establish European ginger production. Together with local partner Agrolink, we are working towards a stable, sustainable supply of fresh organic ginger closer to home.

A recent issue of the German trade magazine Ökologie & Landbau featured an extensive article on Living Wage initiatives. Journalist Leo Frühschütz interviewed, among others, Eosta’s Sustainable Sourcing Manager Gert-Jan Lieffering about Eosta’s practical approach.

The Organic Raingrown Avocado programme has already saved 610 million litres of precious drinking water through September. We are currently in the middle of the Mexican season for these rainwater-grown avocados. Meanwhile, Morocco is preparing for the start of the new organic avocado season. This ensures a stable supply throughout the year.

The new harvest of organic Medjoul dates from Morocco is on its way! At the end of October, the first containers of fresh organic dates from our partner Les Délices Majhoul will arrive at our facilities. The harvest promises excellent quality, with the characteristic soft texture and rich natural sweetness for which these dates are known.

Eosta and HAS University of Applied Sciences have started a collaboration in which four students are researching how Moroccan Medjoul dates can gain a larger market share. For six months, they will devote a significant part of their time to this practical research, which focuses on both the supply chain and the European market.

Good news for mango lovers! Following last year's success, we are once again transporting our organic Ataulfo Mango from Peru by boat this season. This special mango – loved for its creamy texture and fibre-free, honey-sweet flesh – is a real favourite among connoisseurs.

A large-scale European study shows that pesticides are widespread in our environment and in humans. The SPRINT project, coordinated by Wageningen University (NL), makes it clear that a fundamental change in agriculture is inevitable.

What a week! Fruit Attraction has wrapped up for another year – an inspiring trade fair filled with meetings, conversations and new opportunities. We strengthened existing relationships, built new connections and shared valuable insights on sustainable trade and organic farming.
