Start of the West Africa mango season

Ahead of the West African mango season, Procurement Manager Joep van Koevorden visited our partners Fruiteq and Buur Sine in Ivory Coast and Senegal. The outlook is positive: both countries are expecting a good harvest in both volume and quality.

Ivory Coast: start of the season

The first volumes arrived this week. The season is expected to last 6–8 weeks, after which supply will shift towards Senegal.

Cultivation is intensive and largely manual. Mangoes are harvested high from the trees: the fruit is cut loose and caught by hand. Some mangoes are deliberately left on the trees – those at the top are for the birds.

To assess orchard conditions firsthand, Joep travelled between the fields by moped. Signs at each orchard provide insight into cultivation data — one of the GlobalG.A.P. requirements.

Fruiteq built a completely new packhouse in Ivory Coast two years ago, including a dedicated facility for organic fruit. This separation safeguards the quality of the organic range.

Senegal: follow-up supply window

After Ivory Coast, supply shifts towards Senegal. The season starts around mid-June and runs through early August.

A good moment to align your programme accordingly. We are happy to think along with you.
