Healthy soil makes organic pineapples more resilient

In Costa Rica, too, the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly apparent. Heavy rainfall, in particular, is making organic pineapple cultivation more challenging and requires growers to be adaptable.

Healthy soil plays an especially important role in organic farming. Because organic growers do not use synthetic pesticides, prevention and natural resilience are particularly important.

Soil with sufficient organic matter retains moisture better during dry periods and can buffer excess water more effectively during heavy rainfall. This helps keep pineapple plants vigorous and resilient and supports the quality of the fresh fruit.

Despite the more challenging weather conditions, the outlook for the remainder of the summer is positive. Good weekly volumes are expected from Costa Rica, supporting availability for summer campaigns and promotions.

We’d be happy to help you plan suitable summer promotions and reserve the required volumes where needed. Coordinate your summer planning with your account manager in good time.
