Kivinaki ready for the new Organic Raingrown Oranges season

Ahead of the new organic orange season, our sourcing team visited Kivinaki in Peru. Over the past four years, we have built a successful export programme with this growers’ co-operative. During the visit, we worked together to prepare for the coming months.

Grown entirely with natural rainfall

Kivinaki supplies our Organic Raingrown Oranges, which rely entirely on natural rainfall. Irrigated orange cultivation typically uses around 500 litres of water per kilogram of fruit. In many growing regions, this means drawing on scarce water resources that are also needed for drinking water and sanitation. Organic Raingrown Oranges require no additional irrigation.

In 2025, these oranges saved more than 180 million litres of water. That is equivalent to the average annual domestic water consumption of around 3,500 Europeans.

Particularly suitable for fresh juice

Kivinaki has its roots in supplying oranges for juice production and therefore has extensive experience in growing juice oranges. The fruit consistently delivers a high juice yield of 45–47% and good Brix levels. Together, we have developed a programme to bring these high-quality organic juice oranges to the European market.

The oranges have a naturally golden yellow to orange colour, which is slightly lighter than that typically seen in juice oranges from Europe, Egypt and South Africa. This is a natural characteristic of the Peruvian fruit and has no effect on its juice content or internal quality.

Investing together in quality and consistency

The partnership with Kivinaki is being continuously expanded, with significant investments in packaging, quality control and logistics. It is also encouraging to see that, alongside its juice and export programmes, the co-operative is successfully supplying fresh oranges to the Peruvian market. This broader market experience further strengthens the co-operative’s commercial base.

During the visit, we inspected the orchards, aligned our quality standards and agreed on various improvements to further enhance product consistency and quality on arrival.

By working closely with Kivinaki and continuing to invest in our partnership, we are confident that the new Peruvian season will once again provide a reliable supply of high-quality Organic Raingrown Oranges. The oranges will be available from week 32.
