Increased volume, strong quality and a rapidly growing market are putting pressure on availability.
Strong start to the South African season
The new South African grape season is off to a promising start. The first Early Sweet grapes arrived this week and are showing a good berry size, good brix and a fresh appearance. Availability is comparable to last year, in a market with rapidly rising demand.
It is therefore positive that we have been able to secure additional volumes for this season, enabling us to better respond to market dynamics. Thanks to our broad purchasing base in South Africa, we can deliver stable supplies from week 51 to week 15.
Despite strong winds in the ports of Cape Town, the first containers arrived on time ahead of Christmas.

Rising demand for organic grapes in Europe
Although the availability of organic grapes from South Africa is comparable to last year, demand in Europe is rising by around 30%. As a result, shortages are expected on the European organic grape market during the overseas season. As a result, many customers have secured their programmes in good time.
Carpe Diem: strong quality and valuable seasonal moment
During our mid-November visit to Carpe Diem, the first containers of Early Sweet—one of the earliest varieties from the Orange River region—were packed. The quality was consistently strong: good brix, good berry size and a fresh presentation. It was also very valuable to discuss the season with the Carpe Diem team and assess the situation in the field and warehouse.

OREX: good field quality and efficient processing structure
At OREX, we observed good field quality across multiple varieties. A significant advantage is that all farms now have their own warehouses, which allows for greater flexibility and efficient processing of punnets.

The Grape Company & Warren Bam: a familiar visit
Our visit to The Grape Company and grower Warren Bam in Sarus felt familiar by now; we have been coming here for several years, which was clearly appreciated. During a tour, Warren showed us the different varieties.

In summary

Carpe Diem has been a trusted partner for our organic grapes from South Africa for many years. This week, the first Early Sweet grapes will be harvested and shipped, so that — assuming normal transit times — they will be available before Christmas. Once again, the quality is excellent, with good size and high brix.
At the end of November, we visited ProPlum, our stone fruit grower in South Africa. Our visit during the harvest season was greatly appreciated by Paul Roos senior and junior and their team, and gave us the opportunity to see the fruit during the harvest season, just before it was shipped to the Netherlands.
Week 12 marks the start of the Tanzanian season of award-winning Organic Raingrown Avocados! Grown on 100% rainwater, these premium avocados contribute to a more sustainable future. Organic Raingrown is available year-round, with origins from Mexico, Tanzania, Brazil and Kenya.
