On 3 September, Eosta (also known by consumer mark Nature & More) will permanently relocate to a new and sustainable business property in Waddinxveen, which consists of a head office and distribution centre. The logistics department moved there earlier, in July. With its numerous sustainable and circular properties and spacious set-up, this CSR leader has realised a workplace that throws the door wide open to the up-and-coming new economy.

Day Zero is threatening Cape Town, New Delhi and, a few years from now, Europe. Organic agriculture is water smart and climate smart and is therefore a necessary solution for the increasingly long droughts. Volkert Engelsman and South-African grape grower Eddie Redelinghuys explain why.

Brussels/Waddinxveen, 3 July – Organic produce specialist Eosta is a proud finalist of the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE). This prestigious prize will be awarded by the European Commission in November 2018. The competition was set up to highlight companies that combine innovation, competition and sustainability successfully.

Last week Eosta landed a Sustainable Food Award for its ‘Natural Branding’ scheme, ahead of competition from Switzerland and the UK. Eosta has been applying Natural Branding laser marking on organic produce since 2016, in order to battle against environmental polluting plastic. So far Eosta has already saved 6.3 million plastic packaging units. Major retailers in Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands have embraced the technique and continue to do so.

Koningin Máxima is erevoorzitter van de stichting die de prijs uitreikt. De inspanningen van Eosta op het gebied van True Cost Accounting speelden een belangrijke rol bij toekenning van de prijs, zo bleek uit de woorden van Klaas Knot, president van de Nederlandsche Bank en voorzitter van de prijs.

South Africa has approximately 650 table grape producers, almost all of which are conventional growers. More than 150 of them, or 20%, attended a conference on May 10th on the opportunities for organic grape cultivation in South Africa. The conference, held in Stellenbosch, was organized by Eosta, a leading European importer and distributor of organic fruit and vegetables. ‘With conventional cultivation you are increasingly running into problems,’ said grape grower Easton Marsh from Lushof. ‘Annual droughts are becoming extreme, and public resistance to pesticides is growing. Organic cultivation can offer some solutions.‘

Zuid-Afrika telt ongeveer 650 producenten van tafeldruiven, vrijwel allemaal gangbare telers. Meer dan 130 van hen, ofwel 20%, was op 10 mei  aanwezig bij een conferentie over de kansen voor biologische druiventeelt in Zuid-Afrika. De conferentie werd in Stellenbosch georganiseerd door de Nederlandse specialist in biologische groente en fruit  Eosta. “In de gangbare teelt lopen we tegen groeiende problemen op,” zei teler Easton Marsh van Lushof. “De jaarlijkse droogtes worden extreem, en de weerstand tegen bestrijdingsmiddelen groeit. De biologische teelt biedt oplossingen.”

On behalf of 80,000 concerned citizens and 150 health food stores, Volkert Engelsman of Eosta / Nature & More handed over the petition “No VAT on organic” to the Dutch parliament today. “Consumers who buy organic products are saving the government and tax payers money. By lowering the VAT on organic, the government will create a more level playing field and encourage sustainable production” said Volkert Engelsman.

Als het aan de Verenigde Naties (VN) ligt, hebben we dat in 2030 bereikt door middel van 17 Duurzame Ontwikkelingsdoelstellingen (SDG's). Eosta omarmt deze ambitie en roept anderen op om dit ook te doen. Op de Fruit Logistica in Berlijn en Biofach in Neurenberg presenteert Eosta haar stappenplan, waarin SDG 12 de hoofdrol speelt.

Op 17 januari j.l. heeft Volkert Engelsman, CEO van handelsbedrijf Eosta, op de Bio-Beurs in Zwolle via Koningin Máxima een appèl gedaan aan de financiële sector om tempo te maken met 'inclusive finance'. Volgens Engelsman kan de financiële sector het verschil maken voor de planeet door de schade die de gangbare landbouw toebrengt aan mens en milieu, mee te nemen in de winst- en verliesrekening.

Organic products should not be charged with VAT, according to a new petition from the organic sector. On Friday 3rd of November, Volkert Engelsman, Director of Eosta, and recently elected No. 1 in the Trouw Sustainable Top 100 ranking, was the first to put his signature on the 'No VAT on Organic’ petition. The initiators aim for a ‘0% VAT on organic food’ regulation in the upcoming first 100 days of the current new Dutch Government. On November 10, 11 and 12, people can go VAT-free grocery shopping at the participating organic specialty stores throughout the Netherlands.
