Discover Arenosa's forgotten vegetables

Jan and son Sam van Arenosa grow organic parsnips and other 'forgotten' vegetables such as Jerusalem artichoke, salsify and root parsley with love and skill. Their arable farm is located on the fertile sandy clay of the polder near Lelystad, on land that was sea 60 years ago.

Sustainable soil management with rotation

On 70 hectares of land, they apply a sustainable '1-in-6 rotation': one year of parsnips, five years of rest with other crops such as grass-clover, which binds nitrogen and enriches the soil. This method ensures healthy, fertile soil in which vegetables can grow optimally.

Years of experience in organic farming

Jan has been growing organically since 1979. "Those years of experience have given us a thriving business, and I am proud of that," he says. Through trial and error, he has learned the tricks of the trade and built a business that works completely in harmony with nature.

Creative growing without chemicals

Sam, who grew organically from a young age, stresses that organic farming requires creativity and care. "What makes it special for me is that you have to take the best care of your crops and sometimes let go. We try to make our plants unattractive to harmful insects, while always guarding the natural balance."

From field to pack, all in house

In their own halls, Arenosa washes, sorts and packs their parsnips, so everything is in good hands from start to finish. Besides their own harvest, they also process organic parsnips from other passionate growers.
