Eosta introduces Raspalis: the best of raspberry and physalis

  • New cross with excellent transport resilience
  • Contributes to biodiversity and climate-resilient

WADDINXVEEN, Netherlands, April 1, 2026  — Eosta, a leading European importer and marketer of organic fresh produce, announces the launch of Raspalis, a new variety that combines the best of raspberry and physalis.

Raspalis combines the characteristic structure and juiciness of raspberry with the lightly tropical aroma and the naturally longer shelf life of physalis. The fruit is distinguished by its bright orange colour, typical of physalis, while delivering a surprising raspberry-like eating experience. In addition, it stands out for its excellent transport resilience, ensuring quality and presentation are maintained over longer distances.

The development is the result of a multi-year breeding programme, combining traditional cross-breeding techniques with selection for taste, firmness and field resilience. Particular focus was placed on plant robustness, enabling cultivation that is better adapted to climate variability.

Another notable aspect is its contribution to biodiversity. The flowers of Raspalis appear to be particularly attractive to pollinating insects, while the plant structure supports a richer micro-ecosystem in and around the cultivation areas. According to Eosta, this aligns with the growing demand for products that not only are sustainably produced, but actively contribute to biodiversity restoration.

With Raspalis, we demonstrate that organic breeding goes beyond yield and taste,” said a spokesperson for Eosta. “By selecting for natural resilience and interaction with the ecosystem, we create a product that adds value for both grower and environment. We expect this new variety to be a surprising addition to the existing soft fruit assortment.”

The official launch will take place in Colombia, a country known for its rich biodiversity and fruit production. The presentation will be led by Colombian artist Shakira, who, as an international icon and cultural ambassador, will officially mark the introduction to the European market.

Initial volumes will become available later this season in limited quantities to selected retail partners across Europe.
