Avocado update: Organic Raingrown from Mexico – Morocco starting soon

The Organic Raingrown Avocado programme has already saved 610 million litres of precious drinking water through September. We are currently in the middle of the Mexican season for these rainwater-grown avocados. Meanwhile, Morocco is preparing for the start of the new organic avocado season. This ensures a stable supply throughout the year.

Mexico – Organic Raingrown Avocados

In Mexico, we work with Avova in Michoacán, a family business that combines craftsmanship with modern, ecological cultivation methods. Organic Raingrown Avocados grow entirely on rainwater, without irrigation. This preserves the natural water balance and protects the soil.

This year, the programme has already saved 610 million litres of water, equivalent to the annual drinking water consumption of more than 11,000 Europeans. The avocados have a good dry matter value, which ensures reliable ripening and a rich, full flavour.

Morocco – new season in sight

We expect the first organic avocados from Morocco to arrive in early November. Due to weather conditions, the yield per tree is approximately 40% lower, but thanks to new plantings in recent years, the total volume will be comparable to last season.

From November to mid-December, there will be a good mix of sizes available; from the end of December onwards, mainly larger fruit. In the first few weeks, the dry matter content will still be low, but this will improve as the season progresses.

The combination of Mexico and Morocco ensures a reliable year-round supply of high-quality organic avocados – with a positive impact on people and the environment.
