Only 42.5% of children aged six-nine eating fresh fruit on a daily basis, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), and an increasing number of five-19 year olds worldwide are now classified as “overweight” or “obese.” In fact, 2022 figures for the later definition put the number as high as 160 million.
The situation is not helped by widespread – and increasing – consumer concern about the presence of potentially-harmful PFAS pesticide residues on fruits. According to a Pesticide Action Network Europe 2024 study, there was a 220% increase in PFAS detections on fruits between 2011-2021. A 2024 Foodwatch Netherlands report found there was an average 17% rise in pesticide residue levels in the Top 10 fruits for children during the same time period, while PFAS were also detected on 20% on snacking vegetables marketed to children (Kassa, 2025).
Faced with these challenges, and a European children’s food and beverage market which is expected to expand from $28 billion in 2024 to $46 billion by 2033 (Renub Research, 2025), Eosta has decided to act now with the launch of Organic Fruit Heroes, a range of branded fruit products that are designed to make healthy eating appealing to young consumers
The overseas grape season starts in mid-December, but planning begins now. Demand for organic grapes remains strong and our growers need early visibility on the volumes they can reserve for fixed programmes. By aligning programmes in advance, we can secure organic volumes more effectively and are also in a stronger position to offer competitive pricing.
Along the Orange River in South Africa’s Northern Cape lies Carpe Diem, a long-standing and trusted partner for our organic grapes. Owner Gog van der Colff took over the family business in 2000 and made the deliberate decision to switch to organic farming in 2006. What began as a step that not everyone was initially convinced by has developed into a progressive organic farm producing grapes, pecans and raisins.
El Niño is clearly affecting the South American mango season this year. Higher temperatures and unusual rainfall patterns are disrupting flowering, making availability and harvest timing less predictable.
