The taste & increasing popularity of (locally produced) green pumpkins

We are excited to introduce our green pumpkins this week as a tasty and sustainable alternative to traditional orange pumpkins, of which we expect a shortage. Not only are these green gems an affordable, locally produced choice, but their taste is at least as good as that of the well-known hokkaido pumpkin.

Taste and popularity

Green pumpkins are known for their firm, hard skin and sweet, nutty flesh. They are ideal for a wide range of dishes, from Asian cuisines to savory pies and Italian risottos, thanks to their versatile flavor profile and texture .

The popularity of green pumpkins has soared in recent years, due in part to their nutritional value and versatility in cooking. They contain beta-carotene, which is good for the eyes and skin, and provide relatively few calories, while still being rich in fiber.

Applications in cooking

Green pumpkins are excellent for a variety of culinary creations. Some examples of how they can be used include:

Roasted: grilled in the oven with oil and spices such as cinnamon, coriander seeds and ginger.

Soups and stews: perfect as a base for rich soups and stews.

In savory dishes: such as in savory pies, Italian risotto or in Indian curries with coconut and hard-boiled eggs.

Limes
