Before we start harvesting Mango Kent in Peru, we look forward to the first picking of our Mango Keitt in Ecuador. The first organic mangoes will soon be harvested in the tropical regions near the equator, where the ideal climate ensures an early start.
From these northern regions, we gradually descend to the south, where Peruvian growing regions then provide us with the next harvest.
In Peru, the season starts in Piura, where Kent mangoes ripen in the early months. The harvest then shifts to Tongorrape and finally to Casma, where we expect the last Mango Kent from Peru.
After a year of limited volumes, this year's prospects are excellent, both in terms of quality and quantity. We have been working for decades with trusted partners in Ecuador and Peru, who ensure that mangoes are picked only when they have the right sugar content (brix level). Picking too early means inferior flavour, and possibly poor ripening.
It is crucial that producers do not want to harvest first, but be patient and wait until the sugar content of mangoes is optimal.
