Together with Robert van Melle, our product manager Grapes and Citrus, we take a peak at the upcoming grape season. Robert recently visited our organic growers in South Africa to see how the crops were doing and came home with good news.

Robert, how was your trip and what did you see in South Africa?
“We had a fantastic trip and spoke to optimistic growers. Unlike previous years, this year they have not suffered from drought or too much precipitation, the weather conditions have been good. So they expect a nice harvest of good quality.”

When do you expect the arrival of the grapes?
“The grapes will arrive in week 50, just before Christmas. We are looking forward to beautiful seedless varieties such as Sweet Globe, Early Sweet, Evans Delight and to Red Globe seeded grapes from Peru.”

Any interesting developments in South Africa?
"Certainly, our growers Lushof (code 690 on Nature & More) and Carpe Diem (code 220 on Nature & More) are doing great work. They have plans to expand with more acreage and new varieties, so that bodes well.”

Is there more news you can tell us?
"Of course! This is the second year we are getting grapes from Peru, Red Globe, a beautiful seeded grape from our grower Jan Bernard. Jan is a very conscious grower who works ecologically and socially sustainable. These grapes are very populair with organic buyers who value the authentic taste and vitality of seeded varieties. With code 120 on Nature & More you can see more of Jan’s amazing farms.”
