As the first in Europe, Nature & More has introduced Natural Branding on organic fruits and vegetables in order to saving a mountain of plastic. In supermarkets, organic fruits and vegetables are usually packed in environmentally unfriendly plastic foil in order to distinguish them from the non-organic alternative. This is important for supermarkets because they want to ensure that there is no misunderstanding at the checkout counter as to whether someone is buying an organic or non-organic product.

Through Natural Branding we are addressing this issue and offering a sustainable solution. What happens, is that a high definition laser removes part of the pigment from the outer layer of the peel of the fruit or vegetable leaving a permanent mark. As this mark is clearly visible it is no longer necessary to pack the products in harmful plastic foil.

Natural Branding is a contact-free method that has been approved by EU Organic certifier SKAL. The method is completely safe and no additional substances are used. Furthermore, the method is so superficial that it has no effect on taste, quality or shelf life. The energy needed for a marking is less than 1% of the energy needed for a sticker.

We already have success with a lot of products using Natural Branding. But off course we would like to expand our product portfolio with this method. Therefore we need research what kind of Natural Branding works on specific products.  We would like to work together with a student test several adjustments and keep track of the shelf life and the visibility of the logos of these products. If we find the right way, this product can be sold into the market right away. You will contribute to lesser CO2 emissions yourself!


  • Set up the definition of the problem
  • Investigate the adjustment possibilities of the natural branding machine
  • Test several products from different countries of origin in time, amount and various adjustments
  • Test different kind of logo’s both in complexity as in technical setup (vector or bmp)
  • Assess what the influence of ripeness of fruits is on the end result of Natural Branding
  • Keep track of the different set ups
  • Test shelf life and visibility of the products
  • Keep track of the results and give your advice for the business
